Precision Mapping Streets v 4.0

The "state" and associated "data" files are contained on the Precision Mapping Streets v. 4.0 CD-ROM. Therefore, it is necessary to always have the CD in the proper drive and to have the data paths set properly in order for the program to access this data. Refer to "Data/Configurations", located in the help files, for more information on setting paths to the data files. However, it is possible to copy or transfer these files to the hard drive and reset the paths so this data can be accessed for the hard drive without using the CD.

To do this, follow the below steps.

  1. Install the Precision Mapping Streets v. 4.0
  2. Copy the Data1, Data2 and Data3 subdirectories and their files off of the CD-ROM into the C:\program files\PMAP40 directory (C:\program files\pmap40 is located with other installed software on the corresponding hard drive) on the hard drive. Note: This will require approximately 37 MB of hard drive space.
  1. The C:\program files\PMAP40\Data1 directory must contain the following 7 files:

    File Name

    Size (MB)

    MAIR.ZPX

    154

    MCITY.ZPX

    1,815

    MCNTY.ZPX

    MSTATE.ZPX

    1,844

    MXTRA.ZPX

    68

    MRTE.ZPX

  1. The C:\program files\PMAP40\Data2 directory must contain the following file:

    File Name

    Size (MB)

    MLAND.ZPX

    9,255

  2. The C:\program files\PMAP40\Data3 directory must contain the following 3 files.

File Name

Size (MB)

ZIP.BIN

1,363

CITIES.BIN

2,851

FON.BIN

3. Create a subdirectory in the directory named "states". Then, individually select and copy "state" files from the CD to the hard drive. Follow the outline below to choose specific files:

Note: As files may be rather large, it is suggested to limit the file transfer to only those that will need to be accessed The transfer of all files will require 553MB of hard drive space.

After resetting the data paths, access will only be available to files that were copied to the hard drive.
