No more Support for UiView ??

Postby Charlie » Fri Nov 09, 2012 2:01 pm

Just found out from a UiView mail list that undertow no longer supports UiView? Is that correct? That would be horrible! And I can't understand why they'd stop their support? I thought that they don't really have to do anything special to provide support for Uiview, do they?

I hope the post on the mail list is wrong. Does anyone have any details?

Yup. Tis true! One of the developers posted on the list that Undertow is no longer supporting Uiview and he has pretty much given up on them. Too bad, because although it was tricky to get all the pieces working together, once it works the setup is damn good.

I don't know, may be we should voice out opinion here and convince Undertow not to abandon support for UiView.

I don't believe undertow frequents these forums, but just I emailed their support to see what the heck is going on. Why would they ever just drop support for UiView? It just doesn't make any sense!

I'll let you know if they respond.

Re: No more Support for UiView ?? - Just a rumor

Postby MichaelG » Fri Nov 09, 2012 5:50 pm

Well, I don't know and I know companies sometimes say things for the sake of saying things, but the promptly responded to my email. Here is what they said (their emphasis - not mine). I guess the termination of support is just a rumor!

Mr. Gurdi, we don’t know why you, or any other forum users, think that Undertow is discontinuing support for UiView? It’s interesting how rumors can sometime take on a life of their own :-(

Please, be assured that Undertow will continue to support UiView and the UiView community who have been loyal users of our software for decades! There was never any discussion, suggestion, thought, or hint that we would ever stop that support!

Why would someone start a rumor like this? People have nothing better to do, I guess. Anyway, I am glad to see that undertow set the record straight.

What is UiView? Is it another program from undertow, related to precision maps?

If you don't know what it is, you don't need it, right? :D

Seriously, it's a program used by ham radio operators and works with precision mapping.

I see, thanks. Indeed, I don't think I need it, I just didn't know what the fuss was all about.
